Nerve Damage

FACTS: There are 100 different types of Nerve Damage. More than 20 million Americans are afflicted with Peripheral Nerve Damage. This type of damage becomes increasingly more common with age.

One in three people has damage as the result of Diabetes. Another third because of an unknown cause, but it includes Autoimmune diseases, Cancer and Compression/Trauma.

NERVE DAMAGE is the result of the assault on the Nervous System. Several factors may lead to Nerve Damage, some of which are common excessive habits such as the direct toxic effects of alcohol. The damage alcohol causes the nerves to malfunction leading to symptoms such as alcoholic polyneuropathy (a numbness and burning on the skin surface.

THE NERVE DAMAGE DUE TO ALCOHOL SYMPTOMS:

Numbness the hand, arm, leg, feet.

Tingling of the arms face, hands, legs

Burning sensations in the legs, feet, hands

SYMPTOMS WORSENED BY ALCOHOLIC POLYNEUROPATHY:

Muscle Weakness in arm and leg

Generalized Weaknesses

Muscle Aches and Cramps in legs Impotence

Difficulty Swallowing Difficulty Urinating

Orthostatic Hypotension Faintness

Dizziness Nausea

Vomiting Constipation

Diarrhea

PERIPHERAL NERVES:

The Peripheral Nerves link to the brain and spinal cord leading to other parts of the body such as skin and muscles. Peripheral Nerves are fragile and easily damaged. A nerve injury can interfere with the brain's ability to communicate with muscles and organs.

SYMPTOMS:

Tingling or numbness in the leg, arm, shoulder or hand may be an indication of any injury to one or more nerves.

Numbness or tingling may also be experienced if a nerve is compressed due to factors such as a narrow passageway, tumor or other diseases.

It is important to get medical care for a Peripheral Nerve injury as soon as possible because nerve tissues can be repaired and complications and permanent injury prevented.

NERVE PAIN COMES IN MANY DIFFERENT FORMS

1/ Neuropathy is a pathological change in the Peripheral Nervous System.

2/Neuralgia is most often caused by some kind of impingement or localized trauma to the nerve or by prolonged exposure to cold, i.e. Raynauds.

3/Nerve Pain may be associated with conditions such as Sciatica, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), Carpal tunnel and Trigeminal Neuralgia.

OTHER SYMPTOMS OF NERVE PAIN & NERVE DAMAGE:

Symptoms depend on the location and type of nerves that are affected. Damage can occur in the Brain and Spinal Cord or in the Peripheral Nerves which are located throughout the rest of the body. Autonomic Nerve Damage may produce other symptoms.
