Endocrine System's Role In The Body

Ten Glands of the Endocrine System

Hypothalmus, Pineal, Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenal, Pancreas,

Female Ovaries, Male Testes, Parathyroids, Thymus

The role of the Endocrine System is to maintain internal stability in the body and product hormones that are necessary for normal functioning, mental health and emotional balance.

The Hypothalamus

One of the most important functions of the Hypothalamus is to link the nervous system to the Endocrine system via the Pituitary Gland. The Hypothalamus works with basic biological needs. Fighting, Fleeing and Feeding.

The Pineal Gland

The Pineal Gland produces the serotonin derivative melatonin, the hormone that affects wake and sleep patterns and seasonal functions. When melatonin is lacking in the brain, supplementation may be called for. However, supplementing with Melatonin must include an "Exit Plan" for the supplement or the body will cease entirely to make its own melatonin, and you will be stuck relying on melatonin indefinitely.

There is so much to be said about the Pineal Gland it has its own section on this website. You can located an extensive wealth of information on The Body Systems page.

The Thyroid Gland

The Thyroid produces the hormones which regulate metabolic rate or in other words, how fast calories are consumed to produce energy. Defects in this gland result in several disorder that are often solved by surgically removing the Thyroid. BEFORE YOU APPROVE SUCH AN EXTREME MEASURE, review less permanent options. Talk to everyone you know about who they know who could help you. Once your Thyroid is gone, it is gone forever and all the remains is the medication you will be on to compensate.

The Pituitary Gland

The Pituitary Gland is the master gland found at the base of the brain. It is responsible for controlling all the other hormone-producing Endocrine Glands. HGH is produced by the Pituitary Gland from the time of birth. Exercise and simple changes to diet and lifestyle habits can stimulate the Pituitary, keeping it active and the body functioning well.

The Pancreas

The Pancreas has two primary functions: It produces enzymes to digest food and it produces hormones such as insulin to help the body process glucose and amino acids. If one or both of these functions aren't working, Diabetes may be prevalent.

The Thymus Gland

The Thymus is a part of the Immune System and transforms white blood cells into T-cells to fight infection and disease.
